An audition for an opera orchestra is just like an audition for any other orchestra; they don't care about awards or degrees -- they only care how you sound!. See:

This depends on the company!. If you are looking to audition for something like the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra or the Chicago Lyric Opera Orchestra, then yes, you need lots of credentials, probably a degree and such!.

But no, there aren't particularly "specialized" violinists for operas!.

A lot of companies do like to a see a performance resume in terms of credentials, ie what orchestras you have played in, how long you have studied, any solo/quartet etc gigs you have done!. I would give a call to whatever company it is you are interested in playing for and ask them what they expect!. You don't have to give your name right away if you are embarrassed about asking, but most companies would not mind having someone call and ask!.

Hope this helps!Www@QuestionHome@Com

They would probably want to see your performance history, and a degree in performance definitely wouldn't hurt!. However, the most important thing is your audition!. All the degrees in the world don't mean anything if you can't play!Www@QuestionHome@Com
