Firstly, Nirvana is a good band, but you mustn't spend all the time with it!.!.!.explore other genres as well: heavy metal (Megadeth, Iced Earth, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest!.!.!.) blues (Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, Albert King, B!.B!. King, Stevie Ray Vaughan) progressive (Yes, Genesis, Pink Floyd, King Crimson, Queen, ELP, Rush, Queensryche) classic rock (The Who, Rolling Stones, Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Aerosmith) classical (Tchaikowsky, Mozart, Beethoven, Bach) R&B/soul (Ray Charles, James Brown, Aretha Franklin!.!.!.) and so on!.!.!.this will help your sense of melody and harmony!.!.!.and rhythm - simply you will have more and better ideas!. Then, about the actual playing!.!.!.learn the following: Theoretical part: 1, read music notation!.!.!.I mean REAL notation, not tabs, they're useless bullshit 2, learn theory - scales, chords, progressions, intervals This will help you UNDERSTAND what you're doing, which is essential whether you do or don't have a teacher, but especially if the latter is true!. ///so that you understand!.!.!.here's an example what it would look like without this knowledge: you have a huge fat belly and want to get rid of it!.!.!.the type of excercise you decide to use is press-up, which is not much useful for belly and you'll do it for months with no result - caused by not knowing that sit-up is much better for training belly muscles/// - a similar equivalent WILL happen if you don't learn to read music and the basic theory Practical part: 1, learn to improvise solos 2, work on your technical abilities - there are tons of excercises 3, work on your tone - ie!. vibrato 4, work on you rhythm !.!.!.and chords of course if you don't know them yet IMPORTANT! Good luck!.Www@QuestionHome@Com The one thing that would assist you in advancing on the guitar quicker than anything else is to learn to read music and then apply that knowledge to all sorts of music genre!. Some of the songs that can pave the way for you--other than the Nirvana tunes--are "Malaguena," "The Breeze and I," "Moonlight in Vermont," and "The House of the Rising Sun!." There are many more, but if you stretch yourself into different moods and genre you'll be surprised at how well you'll start to play!. A 20 to 30 min!. practice is all that is needed but on a daily base!. If you do that, in 6 months, you will see a major difference!. also , practice fingering technique ONE FINGER=ONE FRET!. Practice on the first fret with fingers 1-2-3-4!. Do this on each string and then go backward 4-3-2-1 All this has to be done with an alternate - picking technique!. No exception!. He downloaded and learned guitar tabs to the songs he liked!. Led Zeppelin and King Crimson to name a few!. He was playing them in a matter of weeks!. The more he played them, the better he got!.
