Hello there!.!.!. It would be best if you just polish with flute with a little silver cleaner and leave the scratches alone as the music store advised!. When you polish deep enough to take out scratches you also thin the metal in that area!.!.!. that is why the store advised against it!. Once the metal is thinner it is also weaker and more vulnerable to future damage!.!.!. not to mention as others have, it would have a tendency to affect the tone quality!. So, sorry about your scratches!.!.!. but to prevent further ones, always wash your hands before handling or practicing the flute and afterwards, be consistent in wiping it down with a soft cloth!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It can be buffed even by yourself!. Their is a product called polish-it with is non-abrasive!.
You apply it with a very soft cloth and it will not ruin the flute at all!.
We do it at the shop and we high speed buff them!.

Note that if the screatches are down to the metal, that is another story!.
If you want to play safe or cannot find the polish I am telling you about, use toothpaste and a toothpaste brush!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Usually you can't get them off on your own, you can send it in to get it refurbished, but depending on the intensity of the scratching, you may alter the sound quality!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You shouldn't even think about it, the tubing gets thinner and then it's prone to more damage!. I have many scratches on my flute and it works fine!. Are you just concerned about the look of the instrument!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

if they are minor scratches some polish might work but DONT try to take out the scratches by wearing down the metal!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.you will change the tuning of the instrumentWww@QuestionHome@Com

bring it to a local music shop they know experts who do this for a living don't do it your self and risk destroying your flute!!Www@QuestionHome@Com
