HI-
if you aren't sure how seriously you want to do this, don't break the bank!.
Craigslist is probably the best place to go!.
If you are serious (I mean it) The Pearl Export is an outstanding kit for a beginner/intermediate!. I used one on several gigs when I first started out!. also, the TAMA Rockstar (stupid name) is a good kit for serious beginners!.
For somebody unsure of their future, look into a kit by Pacific drums!.
I would avoid the pawn shops until you know what you're looking at!. That is, you'll get it home and it will sound like crap!.
Go to a local drum shop or guitar center and plead your case!.
THANK YOU FOR DRUMMING!.!.!.!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

also check out DDrum kits too!. They are pretty cool!.
also check out the Tama Imperistar star kit for $700!.
It comes with a set of Meinl cymbals ( Hi hats, a Ride, a Crash and China cymbal) with it too!.

Search local pawn shops!
Or check music stores when they're on sale!.

Pawn Shops are a good place to start if you want to be a beginner and work your way up!. Plus you can get them even cheaper if you know how to haggle!

Good Luck!Www@QuestionHome@Com

I'm not sure about brands but check the pawn shops in your area, you can get an entire setup for a quarter of the original cost!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
