HI Kaila, if you have played the clarinet for six, years, you must really be good!. I can understand you wanting to branch out and try another instrument :)) Flute is good!. Though you are going to have to work really hard to convert your clarinet embouchure to a flute embouchure to get a good quality tone!. If you are seriously considering switching instruments, as advanced as you are a player, I would suggest an intermediate to advanced model flute!. Gemeinhart or Yamaha sterling silver tubing, with open holes and a b footjoint!. Priced used from $750 to $1000!. But if what you are wanting to do is add another instrument to your musical skill, you probably should go with a beginner student model!.!.!. again, the Gemeinhardt or Yamaha brand, silver plated tubing, closed hole, and c footjoint!. Priced used between $250 - $500 depending on who is selling!.!.!. but you may just want to rent for a couple of months to see if it is for you!. Books!? My recommendation is the Rubank Elementary Method for Flute!. It is very thorough and what my students all begin on!. There is a large fingering chart in the front to refer to when needed!. What is nice about this book is that it is 1st in a series!. After you complete it!.!.!. there is the Intermediate and then the Advanced books!. Priced new $6!.95!. As for private lessons!.!.!. teachers will charge what they want to!. From anywhere between $12!.00 a session to $50!.00!. I charge $24!.00 for 45 minutes - right in the middle!. If you have friends that play the flute, go directly to the horse's mouth for advice, which is better than trying to read from a web site and wondering if you are doing everything right!. I highly suggest a teacher, however, as they will put in the right direction and curb any bad habits that might slip up!. Well, that is all I can think of now!.!.!. Hope you do take up the flute!. It is fun!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I've played the clarinet for 6 years as well, and I started teaching myself how to play the flute a few months ago!. It's definitely not something you can just switch to over the summer and play the next year in band, but it's always good to have a secondary instrument!. I learned the alto sax two years ago and I love it!.

Do take up the flute if you think you'll enjoy it, and you can maybe play in some smaller ensembles-- duets, trios, etc!.!.!. with it at concerts and such to start off with, anyway!. Who knows!? Maybe you'll have a natural talent for it and be able to play it for regular band! Check out craigslist!.org for used ones, if you're looking to purchase a really good one- prowinds!.com!.!.!. if you just want to try one out, check out local stores and talk to friends to see if they'd lend you one for a while! That's what I did-- my cousin didn't play hers anymore so she's letting me borrow it for a while!.!.!.

Good luck!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Switching from Clarinet to Flute may be slightly awkward!. The embouchures are very different and you use MUCH more air on a Clarinet than on a flute!. But all woodwinds are pretty similar so it wouldn't be to stressful!.

For a starting flute, you could get a Gemeinhardt!. This brand is great for beginners because they aren't too expensive!. It's the brand that I started on!. It served me well until I finally had enough money to go for quality instead of price!. If you have plenty of money I'd go for a better Yamaha or even a Miyazawa!.

I take 45 minute session lesssons and I pay $30 for that!. That, however, is a steep price for where I live!. My teacher is a member of the OKC Philharmonic so it's a bit pricey!.

Flute is an awesome instrument so I hope you enjoy yourself :DWww@QuestionHome@Com
