Question: Audition for a musical play!? What should i do!?
The one that i am going for is the Asian version of Broadway and i'm super nervous!. I was asked to bring along two one-minute monologues (contrasting scripts) and to prepare a song(bring minus-one)!. I am kinda confused abt the song!. Should i come up with a song of my own!? I was planning to sing Alicia Keys' Fallin actually!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I'm a musical theatre composer and have sat through hundreds of auditions!. I strongly advise you to sing something from musical theatre; most pop tunes like the Alicia Keys song you mention are not melodically strong enough to ACT!. What you want is a song that essentially functions like a monologue, that lets you "play a character" while you sing!. If possible, sing a song by the same composer of the show you're auditioning for but don't sing a song from that show specifically!. If you don't know any musical theatre tunes, choose a pop tune that tells a story!. Alanis Morrisette lyrics can work; oddly enough, country tunes can work well!. Either of Carrie Underwood's recent hits BEFORE HE CHEATS or LAST NAME would work well!. You don't have to be the same age or gender of the original singer as long as the song is something a person of your age and gender MIGHT sing!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Sing the classic Broadway hit "Mame"!. I absolutely guarantee fantastic, earth-shattering results!.!.!.if you can pull it off!. If so, expect a call back!. I'd bet my life on it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
