Question: Arts or Academics!?
My life is in the arts- I love to act, write, draw, sing- the works!. I'm very good at writing, from what I've heard, and acting is my passion!. I want to get into that department in the future!. The only problem is that my parents want me to do something in the academics field [apparently, I have a very heavy dose of intellectual giftedness]!. So the question: arts or academics!? I'm going to have to make this decision soon, since I'm going into 8th grade next year and I'll have to choose between regular high school or a performing arts charter high school!.

Go where your heart dictates!. It's only high school! You could do fine arts and still excel in all the academic subjects!. You could even do the International Baccalaureate program while at an arts high school!. 66% of first year med school students are musicians!. In fact, they look for it in the admission process!. Apparently, those with long-term musical study demonstrate more discipline and mental focus!.
After high school, when you've dabbled in the arts for the next four years, you could then decide what you want to study at university after that, keeping up your academics while you immerse yourself in the arts to find out if you are really going to want to do it as a vocation!.
Explain to your parents that at 14, you just want to keep all your options open, that it's still too early to settle into one stream or another, you can figure that out later, when you know yourself better!. It's YOUR life!

I wish I could go to a performing arts high school!. That would be freaking AWESOME!.
But, alas, I have to stay here in Iowa and go to your everyday boring Catholic high school!.
