I'll throw my hat in the ring and suggest Epiphone, ESP LTD, Jackson, Ibanez, and Schechter!. Fender makes some very decent mid-priced acoustics, as the other answerer said!. I bought a 300$-something acoustic !.!.!.!. oh, geez, I guess it's been five or six years now! !.!.!. and it's still holding up very well, and I've beaten the crap out of it (taking an acoustic to the beach is a lot of fun, but if you're drinking you should expect some damage to occur, no matter how careful you are!)!.

It really depends what you want out of your guitar, though, and it is important to recognize that just about any guitar you buy will need a setup, new strings, and will usually benefit from buying new pickups!. Make sure you play it before you buy it!. Some necks will feel better and play better than others!

I've bought a Jackson and two ESP LTDs, and I'm very pleased with all of them!. The Jackson's neck is a little skinny for my hands, I can't play it too much or my hands hurt, but the LTDs fit great!. I put a Seymour Duncan JB humbucker in the bridge of my EC-50 and it sounds great!.!.!. I'm in the middle of rewiring the EC-100QM, but I may swap out some pickups there, too!.

If you're thinking about joining a band, make sure you've got an amp that will do the job!. Your amp is most of your tone - so make sure you've got a good one!. Marshall is a great way to go for rock and metal!. Tube amps are great, but they also cost more money, and require more maintenance!. If you don't want to mess with extra maintenance or can't afford the price, I would suggest one of the Marshall solid-states!.!.!.!. my buddy plays through an MG!.!.!. I dunno the full model number, but he plays it through a 4x12 (2 of them for practice) and he sounds great!. He also plays a 7-string Schecter with EMGs in it, so maybe that has something to do with it as well!. =)

Great tone and great distortion comes from an amp, not a pedal, so if that's what you're after, then invest in a good amp!. Keep your pedalboard as simple as possible, as that way there's less that can go wrong!. Always pack extra batteries, cables, and if you can, an extra guitar!. A broken string on stage is bad times, and no one wants to stop the show just to watch you change a string!. Under no circumstances should you get a guitar with a floating trem, no matter how cool you think it is!. They go out of tune very quickly, are difficult to retune, and if a string breaks, well, it can't be replaced quickly!.

PS Have fun!

Schecter!. Gibson is a little out of the price range for you, im assuming if your still on a v!. cheap guitar like that!. Schecter!.!.!.have a great sound, although they tend to be!.!.!.a litttlee higher in price, pretty much with guitars, you pay for quality!. It is, what you pay for is what you get!. I had an epiphone, pretty good cause made by gibson for a less pricey range of guitars, but my epiphone doesnt even begin to compare in sound and quality to my schecter, and you can get brand new guitars off ebay!.

Remember that your amp has a lot to do with the sound quality also!. Overall, check them out, Ibanez and Epiphone are okay options as well!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

For electrics, I like Gibson guitars!. They're pretty versatile!. They have a nice acoustic sound, but can be used for punk and stuff that's a little heavier!.

For acoustics, my personal favorite is Taylor!. Fender, however, makes some nice ones for $300-400!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

if you can afford it, gibson, fender , gretsch
cheaper brands include ibanez, maton, hamer, fender squire and epiphone are well made too!. my fave is the epiphone les paul goldtop!. affordable, sounds great, built robust too!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Try a Gibson Les Paul or SG, an American-made Fender Strat or Tele, or an American-made PRS!. Those three manufacturers dominate the quality electric market!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Just go for the best!. Buy a Taylor!. They now offer their full line of acoustics and solid body electrics!.
