Question: Meyer Alto Sax Question!.!?
Hi everyone!. I play the alto sax and I need a new mouthpiece (I still use the one that came with my sax)!. I have played for around six years and my band teacher reccomended the meyer!. However, I do not know whether to go for a meyer 5 or a meyer 6!. I play jazz and am also in marching band (a jazz mouthpiece is reccomended because it is capable of playing louder)!. Whats the difference!? Which one is better for which reason!? Which do you reccomend!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Since your teacher recommended that you make a change, it sounds like you're more than ready for it!. Definitely go for the Meyer 6!. In fact, Meyer now has a new "G" model that you might want to check out!. Technology is finally catching up to the music world, and the manufacturers are able to capture the "vintage" sound through better understanding of the manufacturing process!.

Please keep in mind that the best mouthpiece "for you" is the one that matches you and your horn!. It will allow you to play evenly, throughout your entire range, with good pitch, at all dynamic levels!.

Best of luck to you!Www@QuestionHome@Com

For all my years of playing, I have only used Myer mouthpieces both for my alto and my tenor!. By all means, if your teacher recommended it, go with the Myer 6 for Alto!. I use a Rovner wrap-around Ligature and medium hard to hard reeds, depending on the gig!. I have never been disappointed with this mouthpiece!

Good luck with your playing!

I prefer the 6, but if it feels too open, try a 5!.

really, you should go to a store that lets you try before you buy!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
