I don't have a high opinion of digitech in general!.

I have heard the metal muff live, and it sounded pretty good!. If I had to pick between the two, that's the one I'd go for!.

With or without top boost, I'm pretty sure it's a better pedal!.

Of course, the purist in me insists that I say that the best distortion pedal is the one that gets the results!.!.!. if you have a good amp you shouldn't need one, and if you even have a halfway decent amp all you might need is a booster pedal - an overdrive, or a distortion pedal with gain turned down and level/volume turned up, an EQ pedal with level and certain frequencies boosted, etc - running into the front of your amp to saturate its preamp section to get "that" tone!. It's worth a shot, at least!.

If you're hellbent on getting a "metal" pedal, then you owe it to yourself to check out the Boss MetalZone!. That parametric mid control gives it some amazing flexibility!.

All distortion pedals can be made to sound better if you put an EQ pedal after, and before also would be spiffy!. Voicing is the name of the game a lot of the time, and that often just comes down to different EQ to get "that" sound!.
