Of course Cardiff is a great city otherwise I wouldn't live there ;)

If I were you I would approach the musical shops that are based on St Mary Street/High Street in the centre of the city!. I would guess that Cranes is likely to be of most use to you but just off the street there is also GM Music as well as Gamlins towards the Central Station end of the street!.

If you want to get some good advice I would suggest contacting students at one of the local colleges, RWCMD, Cardiff School of Music and the like!. Immtech artistic training college (based behind Central Station) may be able to help you too!.

You should be able to get plenty of advice through Wales Millennium Centre, and particularly Ty Cerdd (Music House) who are based there!.

Both the WMC and St David's Hall are organising their own Music Schools during the summer for budding musicians so it could be beneficial for you to contact them- IGF Rock Comps is suitable for 11-18 year olds and takes place at Wales Millennium Centre from 11-15 August; Music Mix is at St David's Hall from 29 July- 1 August and is for 12-21 year olds!. Try to find a Fender Squier Combo pak!.!.!.It comes with guitar, gig bag, amp and tuner!.
It sells for roughly, $200 american!. It is not expensive but is a good guitar and has good playability and action!.

You can order it from ebay for a better price probably, i know it is not expensive but I don't look at the price!. I look for the value and if the guitar is good for beginners!.

I fix many guitars for Gibson , Fender, Ovation, etc!.!.!.!. and this combo pak is a good buy!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Have a look in Argos, they used to have deals with a leccy guitar and amp bundle!.

Failing that, most music stores sell such items and good prices but you'd know if you had one of these in your local area if you're musically minded because they seem to attract you to them like a bee to honey, even though you don't want to buy anything!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Learn on an accoustic first, makes playing an electic much easier!. A half decent one would be cheaper than an electric I would imagine!.
And I would try the internet for books and stuff, tends to be cheaper!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

i don't know what about a car boot sale or a lot of charity shops seem to sell them now a daysWww@QuestionHome@Com

if you're looking for a new guitar, try cardiff guitars down the bay!. they really are great, i got my jazz guitar from there and there's a great selection, a good beginner guitar will cost under £500 and the people there'll service it every six months for free!.
as for the books, i'd think the best place to go is probably gamlins on st mary street, and they're probably your best bet for the amp as well!.!.unfortunately cardiff guitars sell reall high end amps that'll cost quite a bit!.!.!.if you're looking for something cheaper gamlins should do it!.
alternatively you could try cranes on the high street, but they do more classical instruments than guitars!.
anyway good luckWww@QuestionHome@Com
