Question: Fingertips hurting due to popping and slapping on the bass!?
Hello all, I was wondering if it was common for your fingers to hurt while learning to pop and slap on the bass!. I've noticed that for the most part, typing and things like that don't posses a problem!. But when I start to play, my index and middle fingertip seem to be tender as well as my thumb!.

I just wanted to make sure it was unusual and also if there was a way to make it "heal" faster!. I usually just play through it so I was curious as if this was the right thing to do, or stop and give it time to rest!.

Thanks!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It's normal!. There's nothing you can do!. Obviously from a medical stand-point one would say to rest!. But on the other side there is a thing called dedication to your art and that really drives musicians to do things their body's probably don't appreciate too much!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

yeah, its pretty normal!. my friend doesnt get the pain as much, but he gets heavy pealing!. when i get bruising inside my caoules(spelling!?), since i dont get no more pealing, i usually dont mess with it, cuz if you keep at it, its gonna hurt even more!. i would recommend you keep on playing but dont do slap all the time, so that it heals faster, but also cuz slaping is not the only way to play the bass!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

my friend is a bassist, and he had the same problem!. he put band-aids or tape over them to make them a little less likely to bleed or whatever, but they were still a little tender!.!.!. just keep playing until some calluses (sp!?) appear!.!.!. then you wont feel it any more!Www@QuestionHome@Com
