A fingering on guitar refers to the way the player's fingers lay on the strings to play specific chords!. For example one can play a fingering for an Open A- an A triad where the bass note, an A, is played on an open string, the 2nd largest string!. In brass and woodwind instruments (other than the trombone, my area of expertise), it is the combination of valves or keys used to produce a specific note!. On a guitar or other string instrument, it is where you place your fingers on the string to produce the chord or note!.
