Dude how to I tell my mom that I don't want to play the clarinet anymore!. I want to play percussion!. She just spent $750 6 months ago to buy a clarinet!. Do you think on eBay, I could still sell it for $750!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

#1!. It's always best to approach your mom with something like this in a direct fashion!. Expect her to be upset, but when she calms down, maybe she'll be more apt to listen!.

#2!. Has your band director said that you could change instruments!? If not, it might be a fruitless thing to even push with your mom!.

#3!. No, you will not be able to get your $750 back on Ebay!. You see, you have a student line instrument that is now a used instrument!. The most you'd ever be able to hope to get is $500, and that's from a sucker!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Percussion is "cool"!.!.!. especially the marimba, xylophone, and tympani! They do, however, cost far, far more than your clarinet!. While there's nothing wrong with the other percussion instruments, they don't give you the opportunity to read music!. By that, I mean reading and playing a melodic instrument!. From a rhythmical perspective, no doubt, the other percussion instruments are great!.

The learning curve for percussion seems easier, in the beginning!. However, it's not likely that you'll be able to take the marimba, xylophone, tympani, etc!., home with you so that you can practice!.

Be sure to talk to your band director about this!. He or she might not let you switch to percussion!. Typically, many of the percussion students will quit band within a fairly short period of time!. Why!? Because it's not as "cool" as they thought it was!. However, many of the others will continue with their instruments!.!.!. like the clarinet, saxophone, flute, trumpet and trombone!.

Oh, about that clarinet!. You might get between $100 and $200 for it on eBay!.!.!. where everyone wants to buy everything very, very cheaply!. eBay has done a great deal to de-value musical instruments!.

Best of luck in your decision!Www@QuestionHome@Com

how about a compromise!? many music programs allow wind players to be in winter/spring drumline for indoor competitions!. this way you get the best of both worlds!

no, you will not get anywhere near what you paid for your clarinet at all,!.!.!.i buy used instruments (clarinets) at no more than $200 from various sources-all brand name in good condition!. you might be able to get $400 to $500 from a sucker,!.!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
