Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
First, get the fender Squier combo pak !. It has the amp, tuner gig bag etc!.!.!.and for $200!.

If you love electric than why waste your time on acoustic!. I teach what the person likes!. What I do to compensate is to give them slightly harder exercise to simulate an acoustic - type playing so they can strengthen their fingers!.

As for lessons, go on youTube and google 'free instructional video'!.
You can view some good guitar players on their that can make you sick but, hey, you chose the instrument and that is b-cuz you love it hopefully!.

As for strings, get Ernie balls !.009 for the fender!. Their are cheap but have the sound of today as we say!. Forget the Elixir and other expensive string!. You are just starting and that is irrelevant to your playing,!.
I play in Studios and use Ernie balls !.009!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Find a guitar music class at your school or cooperative extension or adult education, etc!. Most will loan you a guitar, at least during the class!. If/when you find that you like it, you can then buy a cheap one (in case you find, later, that you don't like it!), and then progress to better ones, and then move on to electric guitar!. Yes, you can skip directly to electric, but, wouldn't it be nice to be able to play anywhere, and not be tethered to a power cord!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

You can take guitar lessons on YouTube!. They aren't the best, but they are free!.
You can learn on an electric guitar, you do not have to start on acoustic!. The difference is the feel of the strings--the mechanics are the same!. You should find a music store and tell them you are a beginner--they can probably point you to some good strings that are easy on your fingers, until you start to build callouses!. And strings are cheap--even really good elixir strings are less than $20!.
What brand of guitar depends on your budget!. Start by looking at musiciansfriend!.com--they are the online counterpart of Guitar Center, if you don't have one of those in your area!. And don't be afraid to talk to people at your local music store for advise!. Music salespeople--especially at guitar stores--love music and they don't mind helping you!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
