For recording gigs!.!.!.you want a snare that has a nice clean sound, something that will show up in the recordings!. I used to use an old Ludwig Collisium 8 years ago!. It's made of Maple wood!. It was a good snare!.!.!.but like I said bfore!. Try out different snares and see which sound you like best!. Because you are spending a lot of money on a snare
( new or USED) and you have to like the sound of it too!. Good luck and have fun recording!!Www@QuestionHome@Com

The new maple Mapex snare has an awesome studio sound!. But that is my opinion!. WIth today's technology, any snare can sound good in any studio!.

Edit!.!.!.!.As Tippy pointed out, Premier has probably one of the best mechanism today and the sound is more than just awesome!. But , like I said, their are many tricks to make a snare sound gound!. You can put a piece of tape under the snare or on top of it to muffle it , or equalize and use dampers!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Use a drum made of birch or beach wood!. That will give you the best sound, just make sure you tune the batter head tight so you get more of a crack and the resonant head a little looser so you don't get too much ringing out!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
