Question: Help setting up my guitar!?
I am a beginner, I recently purchased an black Ibanez GRG 170 DX, a Korg GA-40 Guitar/Bass tuner, and a Fender Frontman 10G amplifier!. Were my selections good for a beginner, I only purchased them because they were on sale from their retail price!. The Ibanez retails for $350!.00, I purchased mine for $231!.00!?

Well I don't understand the meter display on the tuner, I need to get a solid green light!? Even when it gets to the solid green light the guitar still sounds out of tune!. And it sounds even worse when I play it using the amplifier, there are four controls on the amplifier; gain, volume, treble, I just want it sound normal as I learn to play, when I play it sounds distorted!?

The most helpful answer will be chosen!.

Thank YouWww@QuestionHome@Com

Hi, the rig you got is just fine for someone learning to play!.

As for how to use the tuner (and how to tune a guitar generally), its hard to explain but easy to show!. So, find a guitar player and have them show you!. If you bought it in a store, go back to the store and have someone there show you how to use the tuner!. If not, find someone who plays - maybe at your school, or church, or a friend!?

Another idea for tuning is to buy a dvd lessons, which will show you how to tune and also give you the tones you need, so you don't have to use the tuner!.

As for the distortion coming from the amp, again its hard to say for certain without seeing the amp itself!. Some amps have a distortion channel - usually a switch or a push-button to turn it on and off!. Otherwise, if you have the gain high and the volume low, it will distort!. Turn the gain down and the volume up a little and it should be okay!.

Sorry this isn't a more definitive answer! Some things are hard to do over the internet!. Have fun playing!Www@QuestionHome@Com

did you buy this on line!!!!?!?!?
please say no!!
I've been beating everybody up for buying on line lately
go to a guitar shop to buy a guitar!
Ibanez makes a fine guitar as long as you don't buy it in a box, they come straight from China if you do!
let a trained tech have it for a few and he'll get it to sound right
that's why you always buy from a guitar shop! then they do the set up and you wont have these headachesWww@QuestionHome@Com

You did just what I tell everyone not to do!.!.!.!.!.!.you have to sit and play a guitar to hear the sound and feel the action before you can decide if it's right for you!.!.!.!.!.let this be a lesson to all !!!! As for a tuner there free all over the Internet!.!.!.!.!.go on google and type in this : free electronic guitar tuner!.!.!.!.!.they have six vertical lines you just hit a line with your mouse and it gives you the correct sound!. Try this site!.!.!.!.they use to have a free tuner!.
http://www!.8notes!.com/ and click on the guitar, you'll see the six vertical lines in the upper right hand corner !!!!!!!!
As for your equipment your going to have to get someone to show you how to set this up, don't you know anyone who plays that could show you in person how to do this!?!?!? If not go to the guitar center and look at the equipment that is like yours and get the guys to show you how to set it up!.!.!.!.!.their very good with helping beginners !!!!!!! Good luck !!!!!!!!!!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Take it to a local guitar shop and have them set it up for you!.

Buying a guitar on-line isn't always a bad idea despite what the person above says!. A lot of people buy online cause the guitar they're looking for isn't sold locally or because it's cheaper!. I recently bought a slightly used Schecter C-1 Classic on Craigslist for $350 shipped, including a HSC!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.beats the hell out of paying $800-900 at guitar center!.

If your amp is sounding distorted you probably have the gain turned up too much, so turn it down!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
