Question: When reading a guitar tab, is the string "1E" the top string (the thickest) or the bottom (the thinnest)!?
is it the same way when using a tuner!? The strings are listed as "1e, 2b, 3g, 4d , 5a , 6e , 7b" on my tuner!.!.!. so would "1e" be the top (the thickest string, lowest note) and 6e be the bottom (thinnest string, highest note) (i'm playing a 6 string guitar, so I'm assuming the "7b" doesn't apply to me)Www@QuestionHome@Com

You have it exactly backwards - 1e is the thinnest string and is usually referred to as the first string!. So, the order of the strings from the thickest (sixth) string to the thinnest (first) string is E A D G B E

Good luck!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Jim V's answer is completely correct but I'd like to add that when people refer to the "top" string they're always referring to the thinnest string, that is, the first string!. In this context, "top" refers to the highest frequency!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
