The sites I used for strumming when I was just beginning was
A!. http://www!.grouptherapy!.guernsey!.net/str!.!.!.
B!. http://www!.guitar-lessons-central!.com/gu!.!.!.
C!. http://www!.metronomeonline!.com/

The way I went about things was I found an EASY song I wanted to play and learned the chords!. Like "Good Riddance" by Green Day for instance!. I then downloaded the strumming MP3 from site A and tried to follow the instructions, but more importantly mimic what I was hearing!.

I began by muting the strings with my left hand (non-strumming hand) and then proceeded to strum in time with my right hand!. After I was comfortable with the pattern, I incorporated the chords!. G G C D or something!.

The strumming pattern was D DU UDU!. So when I was strumming I would VERBALLY say:
down down-up up-down-up \ down down-up up-down-up \ etc!.!.!.
When I added the chords I would say
down down-up up-down-SWITCH \ down down-up up-down-SWITCH \ etc!.!.!.

I started strumming with just one chord over and over using the same pattern!. Until I got comfortable jumping between chords!.

The most important thing when learning how to strum is:
1!. Strum a familiar song that you enjoy
2!. As a beginner, switching from chord to chord can be difficult, but it's okay if you sound bad!. JUST MAKE SURE THAT YOU'RE TIMING (STRUMMING) IS EVEN AND CLEAR!. The online metronome will help!. You're left hand will eventually follow!.
3!. PLAY LOUDLY, you're going to annoy a lot of people, but that's the only way you'll get better control of your strumming hand!.
4!. It must be said, practice everyday!.

The best video site for guitarists hands down is http://youtube!.com/
A lot of users post covers and some even give lessons!.
Listen to acoustic covers of your favorites!.
But the song selection is hit or miss!.

From my experience with guitar playing, I was never musically trained, I just decided to pick up guitar one day!. Like yourself, I found guitar chords and tabs in general to be difficult to implement in my playing!. I could form the chord shapes and everything, I just had terrible timing and no idea how to strum!. The truth is, it's still going to be pretty difficult!. However, once you learn several strumming patterns, your ear is going to be able to better hear patterns in more songs!. So, you'll eventually get the hang of it!. And really, you can play any song in any strum pattern you like, it's all how creative you want to be!.

The thing with guitar tabs is they give no indication of time, so you have to fill in the blanks!. Like how many counts each chord gets!. Luckily, like 95% of all songs are in common time (4 counts) so it's relatively easy once you improve!.

Going back to the Green Day example!. Most tabs only indicate the chords as G C D!. From knowing the song, you'll realize that the "actual" progression is G G C D, giving 2 counts to the G chord!. That's why it's imperative that you begin by learning songs that you are already familiar with to get a better sense of time!. Once you get through this initial learning curve, you'll be playing tons and tons of songs, because really most songs are pretty simple!.

Hope this helps, sorry for the length, I got carried away!.

Once you get better, try http://www!.chordie!.com/
It can transpose songs to better fit your voice, lets you keep and modify a songbook, and gives numerous chord variations!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
