Question: What types of instruments are easiest to play (strings, woodwinds, brass)!?
I've heard it said that aside from the obvious candidates (kazoo and triangle) the easiest "real" musical instrument to play is the saxophone!. Is that true and does that mean that all brass instruments are similarly easy!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

No, the easiest to learn and get a musical foundation in are the ones that don't require muscle memory and strength to create a good tone!. I would say Piano is the easiest to learn, or get an intro into music with!. However, just because something is easy to learn DOES NOT mean it's easy to master!. Out of the three you mentioned, I would say strings!. Oh BTW, the Saxophone is a Wood Wind instrument!.!.!.not a Brass instrument, as it is played with a reed!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

They all have different challenges and places where they are easy!. Different people will take to different instruments and different families of instruments while others won't!. If you look at the fact that Suzuki music programs let very young children (4, 5, 6, 7, etc) play quite well on a string instrument, you could say the strings are easy!. Yet schools that use the Orff method of teaching have entire elementary schools learning percussion instruments!. There are tons of players that pick up brass instruments with no problem at all!. There is no point in comparing them as what is easy for one person is not easy for another!. Personally, I find string instruments and drum kit to be difficult!. I can play brass, woodwinds, and keyboard percussion instruments with no real work!. Could you do that though!? If not, does that mean that I was wrong about what is easy and what is hard!? No!.
also, the saxophone is a woodwind, not a brass instrument!. It is made of brass, but the sound generation is by a reed which makes it a woodwind!. It is played in a completely different way from brass instruments!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

First off!. Sax is a woodwind or sometimes referred to as a reed instrument!. I think that woodwinds are easiest to learn because they are easiest to produce a sound!. You have to practice with the trumpet or flute more to get it to make a sound!. Saxes are good beginning instruments, but they are expensive!. Clarinets are less expensive and are similar to the sax!.
Other than wind instruments, I think that piano is the easiest to play and the best beginning instrument, because you learn music theory really well!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I've always felt that everyone should start with percussion at a young age in order to learn rythym and listening skills, and then progress from there as they get older and develop the physical skills that are required to play larger, more complicated instruments!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
