The preceding answers from experienced pianists are of course correct, but I think you're after a different kind of keyboarding ability!.

To play by ear learn the basic triads of chords (C major=CEG, Eminor=EGB, for ex!.) Some boards have prerecorded chords so you can hear what they should sound like!. Play with the chords and add melodies that fit even if they're your own!. In the left hand play the root of the chord with the triads!. You have to have the talent and a good musical ear to do the above, but it sounds like you can do it!.

After you learn chords and their names, look at guitar song books that have chord symbols for playing the songs!. Sing or hum the melody and play the chord on the keys!.

The folks in the previous answers may want to shoot me, but I've played piano both ways!. You won't be a great pianist with the shortcuts above, but you can get started right away and maybe prevent a lot of discouragement from going the "disciplined" though infinitely better route!.

I would recommend focusing on the instrument you like best and really get good at it!. Then you're free to "play with" other instruments as you desire!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I’ve been playing piano for almost 10 years now!. The best thing to do is look in the yellow pages for a good piano teacher in your area!. And if you want to get a good start studying music theory!. It’s best to study the basics of piano music, like the composers, the dynamics!. Oh and most of all start out on a real piano!. Electric pianos don’t have the real touch that real pianos do!.
Other than that have fun and if you need more advice contact me!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
