Position:Home>Performing Arts> Audition song choices?Question: Audition song choices!? I'm trying out for Anything Goes, I'm a fifteen year old guy and I was originally gonna sing "All I Ask of You" but I'm starting to think it might be to high for my voice (I'm a bass-baritone)Www@QuestionHome@Com
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: I would try to find something else by Cole Porter!. He wrote some amazing songs, and that will show that you can sing in the same style as the show for which you are auditioning!. I would look at "So in Love" or "I've Come to Wive it Wealthily in Padua" from Kiss Me, Kate!. Check out the Singer's Musical Theatre Anthology series for other suggestions!.Www@QuestionHome@Com I wouldnt go with that song just because it is very challenging and calls for a more mature voice!. I always found it helpful to sing a song from that play if you want a lead role!. If you do not want to audition with a song from that play try to sing a song that fits the style of the play your auditioning for!. This helps the director visualize you in the role!.Www@QuestionHome@Com Ya know, I just did a quick search on the show and then Cole Porter specifically!. And that's what you should do!. I'm glad you're aware of your voice quality and range!. You will make a better informed decision!. Here is my mantra for auditions!. Find a song by the same composer, but not necesarily from the show for which you're auditioning!. It's often refreshing to hear something a little different when you're on the selection committee!. If they are interested in you, they'll let you know what they want to hear from the show in a call back!. Hope this is helpful!. Good luck!Www@QuestionHome@Com by sixrubbe!.!.!. Member since: October 23, 2007 Total points: 254 (Level 2) Reviewing the Situation from Oliver is a great song!. It is really good if u want to show off some acting too!. Les Poissons from The Little Mermaid is a funny song!. Me from Beauty and the Beast (the Broadway show not the movie) There's a Sucker Born every Minute from Barnum is an amazing song, its upbeat, funny, and well written!. I highly reccomend this one!. I hope that helps also, if u ever need more ideas, what i do is go on amazon and look up songbooks in my voice range and look at the song lists in the product description, just to get ideas there is one company that makes a ton of songbooks the link below is Volume 1 of the Baritone/ Bass collection i think there are 5 or 6 volumes in all here is the link: http://www!.amazon!.com/Singers-Musical-Th!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com If you like your choice of song, but it's a bit too high, can you transpose it down a whole tone!? Contact the accompanist and ask if they can do that from sight at the audition!. There's no shame in transposing!Www@QuestionHome@Com If I Can't Love Her- Beauty and the Beast Make Them Hear You- Ragtime Empty Chairs at Empty Tables- Les Miserables As Good As You- Jane Eyre I'll Cover You (reprise)- RentWww@QuestionHome@Com |
