NO, the violin is not only for girls. Many of the world's greatest violinists are male :

Itzhak Perlman
Maxim Vengerov
Joshua Bell
Nigel Kennedy
Gil Shaham
Jascha Heifetz
Pinchas Zukerman
David Oistrakh
Nathan Milstein
Yehudi Menuhin

The cello is a bit easier to get a nice sound out of straight away but they are more expensive to buy. : about $700 for a beginners instrument compared to about $200 for the violin.
The cello is also harder to transport around ; try taking one on a crowded bus.

The violin is cheaper and more portable.

Which do you like the sound of the most ? Listen to them on youtube and get a feel for the instrument. Have somebody play them for you in a music shop too ; I mean somebody who really knows how to play.

I would chose the one that feels right to you. I personally like the sound of the cello. Many if not most of the best violin players have been male.

Listen to both of them. They are different in sound and position when you play. I chose the viola and enjoyed it.

i play violin, love it personally...and though i am one, its not just for girls! Cello was also a great instrument, whichever side of the octave you end up on is fine.play both

This is one thing that you have to choose for yourself, we can't make it for you.

Listen to various violin and cello concertos and pick from their. Cellos have a deeper but richer sound, but in orchestras they usually either get a really cool melody or they're the rhythm section. With the violin, it's kind of a sweeter, softer sound and in an orchestra usually they either get the melody, harmony, or they don't play at all =P

And violin is not only for girls, I know a ton of guys who play violin as well. The concertmaster of the symphony I've in is a guy and most of the well known violinists are male.

As you get older you can always pick up the other or you could study both. If you're going into music for a career you have to know multiple instruments, it really helps.
