Question:I make music and when composing digitally, I like to sample my own voice and tweak it through software to create crazy sounds etc. and I was wondering is there any time of voice techniques I can learn to broaden the spectrum of sounds I can create??

Try some outrageous vibrato first. Think of how an 80 year old singing opera might sound. Try each of the variety of different styles of singing you would normally find in different styles of music. By that I mean try singing like a rock singer, then an opera singer, then a country singer, etc. Make sure that you exaggerate each of these. (Put lots of grittiness in the rock singing, a huge amount of sliding into the pitch with the country, etc.)

Also, if you're male, try singing as low as you can with your falsetto, this usually sounds odd.

Of course, you can always do any of the things people normally do to make their voice sound weird. Try singing through a fan. Try singing into something with an odd sound reflection like a large metal barrel. Wave your hand in front of your face "indian" style.

As a extra note, be very careful not to do anything that will damage your voice. If it hurts don't do it. If you choose to ignore that advice and do it anyway, don't do it very long at a time. Just like your hearing, high stress and cause permanent damage quickly, medium stress will as well if it continues over time.

Check out Tuvan Throat Singing on Youtube.

Also search for "beatbox" and you'll see people doing lots with their voices. Bobby McFerrin is famous for this.

It's a really big, interesting and entertaining subject.

Good luck!
