IMO: Absolutely. In fact I stress learning on a classical guitar first. The nylon strings are much easier on your fingers and the tone is unbeatable. After you learn to produce good sound and have developed some techniques that are necessary on acoustic but not necessarily on electric, then go to electric. Electrics are "easier" to play (causing people to overlook some techniques) so if you have techniques that you learned on acoustic you will sound and play better on electric. I have switched from playing acoustic (and sold a Gibson Dove which I will regret forever) to only electric, to only "heavier" electric (and sold a Rickenbacker 360c semi-hollow body electric 12 string - which I will always regret!) to both (three if you count classical as separate from flat-top). Acoustic will help you play electric enormously but electric is of little help playing acoustic. Thanks for BA! Good luck! Report It * You must be logged into Answers to add comments.
