8 counts? How fast?
A second octave Bb shouldn't be too hard.

Can I suggest something?
Lie on your back, put some heavy books on top of your belly, and breath using your abdominals. Feel your abdominals pushing the books upward as you breathe in.
This exercise should help A LOT with overall air intake and lasting longer with a same given amound of air.

Keep your air flow consistent

well take a deep breath at first and let the air come from your stomach (in a sense). like you should breath through your whole body not just your lungs.

Keep your lungs as full as possible. By the time you take your breath there should still be air in your lungs and you're just adding some to it.
Practice filling your lungs all the way, holding as long as you can, and then pushing *all* the air out as slowly as possible. It will help you gain better control.

Are you playing in a group of a bunch of flutes like in band? If that is the case then try stagger breathing. That's when you take breaths in the middle of the note but so many other people are playing that it isn't noticeable. :)

I'm assuming you are playing with a group of people. You need to communicate with each other that you all take breaths at different times.
