None really....

You just have to have the drive, persistence, be willing to pass out flyers, be able to handle rejection and etc.

This is what I did for my old friend band back in the mid 90's.
I was his Drum roadie for both of his bands. Being a former Drum Roadie gives you a REAL inside look into the Music Biz from behind the scenes.

Anyways, so I started helping him pass out his Band flyers for his upcoming shows around town. At that time, I had a real good hookup. I personally knew the Owner of a local Record Store very well for many years so he would allow me to drop off my flyers at his Record store anytime I wanted too. This helped out alot for me because it was easy and the Owner knew me because I spent many years and hundreds of dollars on buying CDs from him.

You've got to get to know a lot of local Club, Record Store, Rehearsal and Recording Studio Owners VERY WELL too because it's those kind of big connections that will help you open doors for your Band marketing plans.

You dont need a special class or Degree to do this. I didnt take class, but I gained lot of experience from doing the Drum Roadie thing for a couple of years. That is where I got all my experience from. Also, you can look into doing an Internship at a Record Label too for Band Promotor experience too. You've also got to know your Band sites too.

Good luck

For one thing, you will need to take classes in business management. To be really in the know, you should contact your local community college and ask this same question. They will tell you in what order you should take your classes and for how long. They will be up front about the cost. You can even ask them to send you written information so that you can read and study it at your leisure.

Well, as far as actual schooling, you don't technically need any, though I'd strongly suggest some business management classes. What goes the farthest in the business are connections and experience. If you want to promote a club, or a person, you want to be able to tell them what you've done and who you've helped get where. Just like most things, you'll have to start at the bottom. Perhaps find a current promoter and ask to help them. You'll likely start off with menial tasks, but you'll learn the ropes of the business and build up your own connections. Eventually you'll get more responsibility, and be able to branch out on your own. Best of luck to you!
