Do Boys think that girls can't play guitar?

No. There are some girls that are better at guitar than me. ( Im a guy by the way. )

Probably, but that's because most girls don't want to cut their nails in order to play.....and from what I've seen from my students the girls quit way before the boys do.....they don't seem to really care about playing guitar, they don't want to put the time required into practicing.....most would rather play the piano. I still remember my first girl student, she wanted to play all her life, and then her Mother finally bought her one, and after one month she hated it so much that she gave me her guitar.....every once in a while I see her, now a woman, and I ask her if she's sorry that she quit, her reply, no, she hated it, couldn't stand the pain in her fingers, and she had no idea that it was so difficult.....I still think if she would have given it about six months she would have changed her mind, kids give up too quickly, most kids think that you just learn a few chords and strum away, well they soon find out that that isn't the case !!!!!!!!

I've met a lot of women guitarists. Those that stick to it can be as good as men.

But guitar does take tough fingers and as someone else mentioned, trimmed fingernails.

However most boys don't play guitar so well any more, so who cares what they think. Kids are generally lazy, girl or boy, and things that take work are not on their radar.

On the other hand there are some very famous women guitarists who are much better than men. Phoebe Snow played beautifully before she became strictly a vocalist. In the classical world you have Sharon Isbin. And there's that really kick-*** lady in the Paul Schaffer orchestra.

If you like it, play it. Make some sacrifices, put in the work. Prove that not everyone in your generation is game-boyed into oblivion.

I haven't met many but then again, I went to a music school. The only girls with long nails were sopranos *drumroll*

As some people above mentioned, they just don't want to cut their nails or have hardened finger tips. For me however, I'm learning the guitar and I don't really care about the long nails, they actually get in the way in daily life lol! If you truly want to learn guitar, you'll do whatever it takes to learn it.

In order to join the ranks of the immortal, you have to give the world something that can’t eventually cash a social security check. Most Women can’t do that. As a man, reaching your potential may take longer than 9 months and it requires patience, a virute that most women don't have, a virtue that is absent in late Generation X and Generation Y, that is why we have been in a music depression for the past 15 years.

But there’s another element that’s equally important to music. Bands. Even though most of them suck today, most bands are not the worst of the worst. Those bands are not girl bands.

Almost all female guitarist are complete **** and a waste of time to listen to, I am not a sexist, just speaking in honesty, why do you think artists like Kate Bushm, Eundy Ross, Cyndi Lauper, even Heart have backup male guitarists? Because they aren't ignorant and they are aware that men have limitless talent when it comes to playing music.

All girl bands have at least one hundred songs about their ex-boyfriends. The second most girls learn to talk, boys are all they want to talk about. The second most girls learn to write, boys are all they want to write notes about. If these girls could learn to piss in the snow, guess what they would be pissing. Boys.

There are only three instruments that most women can play with competence. Their voice, their hips, and a bass guitar. Everything else is way too complicated. It is a rarity when any women goes beyond that successfully. I respect those women that do.

Until the four bass quartet is an actual thing anyone wants to listen to, girl bands can go piss away.

No smoking in bars? How about no girl bands.

However I agree with the second answerer, kids today, boys and girls, lack the motivation to even perform like some of the more respectable women in music history.

i hope not. i play guitar and i am a girl [duh] and im better than my brother haha. although girls' nails DO tend to grow faster than boys so female guitarists do have to clip their nails more often or they break.

Some boys do think that but they are just ignorant and know nothing .

grr they better not because i play and i'm a girl. like the other girl who answered i play better than my brother and and he's 3 yrs older than me(well more like 2 cuz my bday is this month) and we started lessons at the same time and i'm better than him lol. and for the fingernail thing I can't stand having them long while playing guitar and i'm to lazy to keep them clean and stuff so i bite them although i was biting them before i started guitar so might just be a habit from when i was younger.
