What is a good beginner Bass Guitar?

Question:My 10 year old son wants to take up the bass guitar, and I have no idea what to get for him. Is there a package you would recommend?

He's also left handed, would he be able to play the bass, or would that be awkward for him?

It must have frets and be easily "fingerable"! Get a 4 string- not a 5 string bass. Let him try holding on to some for the "sense" of the instrument for him.
And don't skimp on price. In instruments, you get what you pay for.
For left handers the strings are reversed...Paul McCartney's of the Beatles bass is left handed.
