What size guitar for a 5 year old boy?

Question:I'm looking at getting a starter guitar for a 5 year old boy. What size do you suggest? Three-quarter (3/4)? Half (1/2)?

Also, are there any brands you recommend or would not recommend?

Unless he's very big for his age, I would recommend a 1/2 size acoustic guitar with nylon strings. Good brand names to try are Yamaha, Epiphone and Ibanez

go to the store with the boy and have him try it on. if its a surprise, take his measurements and ask the guy who works at a music store
