Stick with the violin. Get yourself some lessons from a professional. You'll be amazed what that and practicing can do. it's very rewarding. And, on the way, you can pick up guitar on the side. It's an easier instrument to self-teach. But definitely stick with the violin.

Edit: If you really have the dedication, get lessons in both. I do that with three instruments right now: cello, violin, voice.

Play Guitar, It's Much Easier To Begin On.

You should never quit something you started. If you know the basics, that is the foundation of learning a musical instrument. That is what professionals base their learning around. Did you consider taking more lessons? That could further your knowledge and help you learn more complicated things. My opinion is definitely stick with the violin.

Stay on violin. The world is full of guitarists. Everyday, the violin is becoming more and more versatile. I live in a mid-sized community in Colorado, and even here, any decent violinist can more work that they can handle. Guitar player dry up and fade away.

How are you learning your violin? You're probably bored with it because you're not progressing. If that's the case, you should get a private tutor if you haven't yet, or switch teacher. You'll find it more interesting when it's more challenging. Switching instrument might seem like the easy way out, but you can get more out of something you've already started than a new experience. Stick with violin and you'll be surprised at how much it's worth.
