Position:Home>Performing Arts> Where can I find OLD Broadway reviews?

Question:I'm trying to find old articles reviewing Broadway productions in the 1940s, specifically 1941-1946. Does anyone know if there were many journals or magazines that reviewed productions then and if so, what they are called? Are there any free archives online relating to this? Would I have to contact a special library and if so, do you know the names of any?
I've already exhausted the New York Times archives and I've found some articles in popular magazines such as Life, Time, Etc. Any guidance is greatly appreciated.

Have you also searched the back files of PLAYBILL? Granted, they are only going to have reviews that are favorable to the trade, but they might have additional links to other sources. Yes, your best source was the NY Times. I believe that Broadway had limited shows going on for part of WW2 - I do not think it ever went totally dark, but this might explain why you are not finding as many reviews as you though you might.

Have you checked the public library? In LA we have microfilms and micro-fiches of old magazines. Good luck>
