Nobody can tell you if it's a good idea for YOU to buy a double bass, but if that's what you're interested in, then I highly encourage you to start researching them. I CAN tell you it will cost close to $1000 for even a beginner double bass.

There is also NO need to play any other instrument first.

One thing that IS important is that yu learn to finger correctly, and for this I suggest at least a FEW lessons to teach you the basics. If you don't know how to read music, then you should learn that too as it will one day be necessary.

I started playing double bass in elementary school and still prefer it to electric bass any day of the week!

Here are some sites that may be helpful for resarch:

Good luck!

teach yourself guitar first then maybe cello/piano. ask your local music service to lend you one ifyou're not sure

Well dont buy a good bass guitar until you enjoy playing a regular bass guitar and get good at it. Then if you enjoy it and are good buy the double bass guitar and make sure you have a good teacher because they are kind of hard to learn to play. I have tried.
