Position:Home>Performing Arts> I'm 14 and want to learn to play the bass....??

Question:Ok, so, first of all, I currently play piano. I've playing for about a year, and plan to continue my training. I'm currently a level 2. I'm also very interested in playing bass. I'm not one of those people who just picks up an instrument to seem 'cool' or to gain friends. I'm willing to stick with it. In fact, I just started formal piano lessons a year ago and had been playing by ear for years. So, my question is, would 15 or 16 be too late to start bass, what brand is good to start with and grow with, and how much would it cost? I'll have to pay for it myself...so it's all for planning's sake. I have no experience w/ guitars and would need training or something...idk. haha Sorry if I sound incredibly stupid and naive. :) Thanks!!

No 15 or 16 is not too late. Having played piano this will help with hearing the notes on the bass. I started out playing piano Then drums then guitar bass came naturally. One day I will start playing a steel. Music is an experience learn all you can.

No 15 / 16 is fine my mom had her first guitar lessons wen she was 38 so it's cool. You can be in my band lol. but being able to play more than one instrment will open so many doors if music is what you wanna do ok.

I started base a few month ago and i'm 14. 14,15,16 are perfect years to start any instument. Bass guitar is alot of fun and i totally recomend you play one. I'm acully allready rocking with a band. Dude go for it

It's never too late to start playing an(other) instrument. If I didn't have so many mental projects I was working on, I would pick up an instrument too. As for the cost, I wouldn't be one to know, sorry.

Good luck with your bassing. xD

of course its not too late!
hmm you should look around on the internet and in shops and ask them whats best for beginners and theyll tell you.
find yourslef a good teacher, but theyre are also really good lessons online (youtube, etc)
i've just started learning drums, i'm 16 and am learning from the internet. haha
its pretty hard..but rewarding!
:D

I started out playing classical guitar and then learned bass when i was about 10 and now that im 14 i started playing piano and thing is once you have some formal eduaction in one instrument especially paino, playing another instrument isnt that hard but good luck

You are actually a good age to start, because you also have musical back ground. I dont know about bass, but i do play the violin and i know 50 year olds that are just now planning to learn to play the bass. good luck.

I started guitar when I was 13 and at my guitar place some people start at age 30 or up. I think u should do it, I dont know many bass guitars, but my guitar lessons cost about $30. Bass might be less. With practice, its easy to pick up guitar,or bass. And it probably helps you can play by ear and play piano. I think you should, its fun.

its never to late to start playing anything. go to your local music shop, they can usually tell you what you need and they can give you lessons.
