Violin, in addition to being an orchestral instrument, is also very useful for various styles of folk music (traditional Irish, traditional Appalachian, Cajun, French Canadian, Scottish, Scandinavian, etc, etc), bluegrass, or country; you can also play jazz or rock or anything else you want on it -- you're limited only by your own imagination and your willingness to learn.

Trumpet, in addition to being very useful for marching bands and brass ensembles, is also an orchestral instrument, and a jazz instrument as well. Maybe not such a good choice if you like folk, country or bluegrass though.

What it all boils down to is -- what kind of music do you imagine yourself playing, and in what kind of setting? Both trumpet and violin tend to be mostly played in groups rather than as solo "play by yourself" instruments. Do you want to be part of a large ensemble like a brass band or an orchestra? Do you want to play in a smaller, more intimate group like a jazz combo, a traditional folk group, a rock band, or a bluegrass band? OR -- would you rather just play by yourself? In which case you might be happier playing guitar or piano, where you can play melody, rhythm and chords all on one instrument all at once.

These are the kinds of questions you need to ask yourself in order to figure out what instrument you'll be happy with.

Which one do you think you would like the best? Trumpet would play more "band" type songs - and would offer the potential to be in a marching band with the sports team. Violin is more "orchestral" music.

You may want to consider the cello - although I consider it to be the most difficult of the stringed instruments (some will justifiably argue otherwise), I think the cello has one of the best "singing" qualities to it.

I'd recommend the guitar. The guitar is a beautiful instrument to learn and your at a ripe age to pick it up. Playing the guitar is a lot like whistling, you can pick up any tune in any tone. Good luck and hope you find which instrument you really like.

I would pick the violin, but go with what you want and remember you can change your mind, I played 5 instruments when I was younger, piano, flute, clarinet, saxophone, guitar, and in high school I finally settled on guitar and voice... its fun to try different things out...

Which one do you really want to play is the question. I'd recommend the violin. It has a really nice sound.

Well, I would go with trumpet. It can range, depending on your skill, from concert band, marching band, jazz band, or all the way to a band you would hear on the radio. In my opinion trumpet is the best jazz instrument.
