Question:I've been looking to sell my second Flute for sometime now. It's actually the more expensive of the two, but I don't use it. It was won at a National Comp that I did a Solo audition for a few years ago but seeing as though it isn't my primary instrument and also that it can help to pay off funds with college, I figured it was best to sell it. I didn't avoid playing it because it was a cheap model or anything, I was just afraid of damaging it in any way. The price for the Flute brand new is over $6,000 and according to the sites I've run into, it's suggested price for being sold as used is around $4,000. The down-side is that I can barely find much info on it. I know quite a lot about music and instruments, but selling is a rough spot for me. I have taken it to a few music stores & have only gotten compliments, they didn't know much about it either somehow. It's an Artesia by Armstrong: 45B-T. Anything besides Ebay would be a great help. I will gladly show you a pic if it helps somehow.

Go to Yahoo Groups. Join FLUTENET. Post this there - you are allowed to sell a personal instrument that way. However, do not expect as great response - especially at that price. Those of us there (3,000 plus) are professinoal flutists, teachers, and students who KNOW flutes - and yours in not in demand.

You can post it on www.usedflutes.com - but many of us get a lot of Nigerian 411 scam from that list. Too bad. Leaving it on consignment in a music store might work - but if you check the COMPLETED acutions of eBay, you will see - if you find it at all - that this instrument will NOT fetch your asking price. The value of anything is what someone will pay you RIGHT NOW for it. Sorry

try selling it in the paper

Well, what you have there is a very expensive flute by a manufacturer better known for beginner- and intermediate-level instruments. Most of the people who have thousands to spend are looking for Pearl or Powell or Haynes.

The musicians' union publishes a national paper (or at least used to) with classified ads. Don't know if they'd accept one from a non-member--call your local chapter and ask them.

There are also some websites where musicians can advertise, and they generally seek full book price for their stuff. http://www.harmony-central.com/ is one, tho' you'll find that they mostly advertise rock-and-roll gear.

Yet another option is to put notes on bulletin boards at college music departments, and contact flute teachers in your area to let you know this instrument is for sale. Those are the places where students who need a step-up instrument may be located.

Where I live,we have music store's that sell instruments on consignment.
Hope this helps

Get permission & put up flyers in local college music pepartment bulletin boards, high schools too!

Good luck selling it but here's one that's gold plated and only sold for $1500 at auction

I doubt that you'll get more than $2k for it... Good luck!
