Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: what's your opinion i need to know a couple, i know boston pops already.

There isn't a best orchestra in the United States. There are several very good ones with a good reputation.

New York Philharmonic
Boston Symphony Orchestra
Chicago Symphony Orchestra
Detroit Symphony Orchestra
Philadelphia Orchestra
Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra
San Francisco Symphony
Orpheus Chamber Orchestra

The New York Philharmonic is a very well known and famous one.

Cleveland Orchestra, they're really good and get a good rank in the list of national orchestras every year.
If you want to find more you might try google and look up the national list.

The new york Philharmonic is probably the most prestigous in the United States.

-Bend High School
-Cascade Middle School
(both in Bend, Oregon)

They may be just school orchestras, but they are the best. Far better than a lot of "professionals"

Chinese Cowboy has given the best answer so far. I laughed OUT LOUD at the person who said some orchestra of students - they might be loyal, but they clearly have NOT heard any of the finest professional orchestra LIVE, as I have over the last 37 years as professional classical musician. The Boston Pops is NOT NOT NOT at the top of anyone's list - this is a group that does NOT share players with the Boston Symphony, except perhaps for a few back-row second violins.

Orchestras are losing their individuality - Back in the Day, conductors would remain, as would players, for decades, and sculpt a singular sound. Now,it seems that the goal is to sound as slick and soulless as a CD.

Let me add to Chinese Cowboy's list - the orchestra of the Metropolitan Opera in NYC is wonderful, by ANY standards.

Cleveland - especially when Boulez conducts
Boston (symphony, not the pops) Levine has taken them to another level
San Francisco

Not only are these probably the three best orchestras in America, but they also do incredible jobs of balancing traditional standard repertoire with new, contemporary works.

I agree with "mamianka" about "chinese cowboy"'s answer being the best so far. I'd also add the Seattle Symphony, the Dallas Symphony, the Oregon Symphony, and the Las Vegas Philharmonic to this list.
