The thing I had to do to get over my own stage fright was to begin by singing on stage with bright lights in my eyes. I couldnt see the audience at all! I picked a spot on the back of the auditorium wall and sang to it. Then it was over and I heard clapping! Some people never do get over their stage fright, but still manage to be very good performers. It is natural to be nervous when showcasing your talent in front of people (especially for your first time!). Try recording your voice with a tape recorder and giving it to your mum to listen to when you're not there. Then ask her for some feedback- just listening to her praise might be enough to bolster your courage- dont let your nerves deprive people of your wonderful gift! Good Luck!

picture everyone naked, or imagine that your singing alone, by yourself

What helps me is i dont look at the people until after i'm in to the song it helps me.it that helps you.

turn your backs to the audience, and try singing

What I do is I close my eyes and drone everyone else out. Focus on the song your singing. Close your eyes or think of something that makes you happy or confident or brave. Think of yourself somewhere where you fell comfortable. And when you open your eyes and come back to reality everyone should be clapping and cheering you on. Pretend like your not really in a room full of people.

Usually the bottom line is that your audience is going to clap no matter what (Unless you are like me and go to music school and always be in front of judges!).

Practice in the environment you will sing in. If it's an auditorium, sing there when it's empty. If you have a solo or something, at the school I went to they turn the lights off over the audience so you can't even see them. You never directly looks at audience members. You always look a little above them.

You have to expose yourself. Join your church choir where you are in a loft and they can't see you. Don't hold back. If you are still in school work really hard on speeches and stuff too, because that is public speaking.

I am also an instrumentalist and it's a lot easier to play badly than sing badly. When you tense and hold back, it's when you make mistakes.

you have to become more comfortable with your surroundings and the people you are singing for, don't be afraid they won't like it. just think about how much you love to sing and how their comments will help you be a better singer. Be comfortable and form a connection with the lyrics, you are singing words that are very meaningful so try to use that energy and direct it over your fear! Close your eyes and sing.

STOP CARING!

That's all there is to it. If you are always worried about how other people look at you or listen to you, your fear of sounding crappy will always hold you back. Once you stop thinkin about what everyone else thinks of you, you won't have to battle stage fright because it won't even be an issue. It all comes down to self esteem, if you know your good, that's all that matters.
