Transposing music (piano)?

Question:my piano teacher gave me an assignment and I had to transpose nine key signatures for bass clef..
I don't know what this means or how to do it, can someone guide me through this?

do you know your scales?
each note has a scale degree number,....take C major for an example,....c-d-e-f-g-a-b-=1-2-3-4-5-6-7

okay, so say you want to transpose a simple passage (c-f-g-d-c in numbers you have 1-4-5-2-1) from C major to D major,....becomes d-g-a-e-d (1-4-5-2-1 in the key of D)
