I learned acoustic guitar first rather than electric because it is harder to play and once you know how to play a hard instrument when you switch to electric it will be very easy. Also they are generally cheaper and have a better sound for a cheaper price.

Good luck with the lessons but just keep patience in mind.

as a guitar player myself, my advice is to learn all the scales first and they will benefit you forever.

Well....it varies on experience here. I first learned to play metal riffs back in 1985 on a Electric guitar. Then it got stolen...

Then, I picked up guitar again 1998....now, I'm using both kinds of guitars.

If you do decide to start learning on a Electric,
just know that you are going to have to buy an amp for it...
it can even be little practice amp. No big deal really...they are under $100.

With an Acoustic, you just play it...simple as that. No amp is needed.

Good luck

What style do you want to learn? Unless all you care about is classical guitar, I'd get an electric.

Learning on an acoustic would be like a baby learning to walk on roller skates....it will for sure make your fingers stronger/more calloused...but why bother? You can always transfer back and forth.

There's no real "benefit" to learning acoustic first. You can play everything on an electric that you could on an acoustic...but you can't play everything on an acoustic that you could on an electric. Make sense?

Electric is of course easier. The necks are thinner, the strings thinner...less string tension etc.

I would suggest getting an acoustic/classical eventually because things like fingerpicking will really help you out on cool clean played things.

Everybody that plays guitar and sticks with it eventually get all kinds of guitars. Acoustic/Electric/Bass...lol. So, start with whatever.

If you're just beginning, it really doesn't matter if you learn on acoustic or electric because the basics are the same for both. It all depends on what you want to do. Find a teacher at a local music shop. Good luck...

Acoustic is much better to start out with, for the following reasons:

Builds better technique, with an improved wrist position
Builds better finger conditioning, because the strings are harder
Less expensive because you don't have to buy an amp

Best of luck!
