I guess it depends on how good you want to get and how much you enjoy it; but generally speaking, it is more productive to practice one hour every day than it is to practice for three hours every three days.

Be sure to understand that "practice" is not the same as "playing." With piano, I needed to work on fingering and specific exercises each day for a certain amount of time. If I had just played a song over and over again, I wouldn't have learned nearly as much. You have to work on technique, not just songs. (Don't mean to sound preachy: it's just that this was really hard for me to accept and live by). :)

In hour a day is great if you are learning to play. Professional players know how to practice less, but more efficiently. Its not always how long,but are you working on the fundamentals.

depends on what you want to do with your playing..... i played for about 2 hours earlier and will play for 2 more later... but thats me... and yes 1 hour a day is good... just do a wide variety of stuff when you practice...

How much you play is not nearly as important as how well you structure that time. If you are just jamming and riffing, you can spend hours and never get beyond the two or three "jams" you eventually learn to play by rote. If however, you structure your time, doing some warmups, working on some new material, spending a little bit of time on your repertoire, spending a few minutes on knucklebusters (scales and arpeggios) and finishing up with a couple of things you do just for fun, you will have used whatever time you devoted to your discipline well, and you will progress at a steady pace. Remember not to stress over plateaus. There are times when you just don't feel you are learning anything, even though you really are. Don't beat ourself up and if you don't feel you are going anywhere change directions for awhile. Best of luck and remember, we only practice on days that end with a

I usually play about an hour a day unless I'm working on something, in which case I may be at it all day.

well if you take lessons it depends on how much stuff you are assigned to practice. i am usually assigned about 7 things per week and everyday i practice about half an hour. or if you don't want to do the time frame thing you can just go through everything that you have been assigned 3 times each everyday, which i do sometimes.
