It's the third string from the lowest. The whole guitar is as follows, from the lowest(thickest) to the highest:
1. E
2. A
3. D
4. G
5. B
6. E

4th string,

starts from bottom, 1 e

It's the fourth string.
Starting from the thinner string:
1. E
2. B
3. G
4. D
5. A
6. E

When holding the guitar on your lap, ( that is if your right handed )....the bottom string, the thinnest is the first string, E, and then the B, second, the G is called the third, the D is the fourth, the A is called the fifth, and the top, closest to your face is the bass E, the sixth string. (The D is called the fourth string in a set)
