Question:HI,
I teach myself so can someone please tell me the correct fingers to use.
I think its:

E,A and D - thumb
G - index finger
B - middle finger
and hgh E - 4th finger

E, A, and D with the thumb, the G with the index finger, B with the middle finger and the E with the ring finger.....now that's not set in concrete, especially when playing classical guitar there are all types of finger patterns, it depends on the piece, sometimes it's a lot of alterations even on the bass strings.....but I don't think you mean classical....just standard picking, I hope that's what your asking !!!!!!!!!

Yes, but it doesn't always have to be that way. With more complex patterns of picking, you can use your third finger alternating with your fourth finger.

That is a good starting point but unless you are learning classical then it is not set in stone. I have even seen fingerpickers who use the litle pinky finger as well.

Actually you meant high E 3rd finger didn't you ? Sometimes called the annular or ring finger. The little finger is the fourth finger and this is not used in classical music..
