i like Pearl flutes. If your an intermediate player it would be a good flute. It has all of the keys, b flat foot, open holes, E mechanism, C# trill key. It is an excellent flute and several flutists in my High school band own one. if you have a beginner flute and aren't quite intermediate yet or in high school, I would get an intermediate anyway instead of getting another beginner flute because, well they're expensive, duh. So you might as well get a intermediate. I haven't heard a lot about Jupiter flutes. Most flutists, I have seen, stick to diMedici, Gemeinhardt, and Pearl. Oh, and I also recommend fluteworld.com. I just recently bought a flute from them. They let you pick a maximum of 5 flutes, they hold the money on your debit card and send them out to you for a 10 day trial. You pick your favorite and send the rest back and then your card is charged. Hope this helped

A great deal depends on what level player you are. Someone in HS is not going to spend ten grand - even if they had rich parents! Yes, Jupiter makes many fine flutes - you could start at the 611 model, then 711, and move up to the DeMedici 1011 - and even all the way to Altus. Yamaha - starting at 300 and 400 series. Pearl, Emerson, Trevor James - so many choices. Go on the www.fluteworld.com site and look around - do NOT buy a flute from some BigBox band instrument store, when you can get personal attention from a flute house. Also - Carolyn Nussbaum, Jeff Smith, Jeff Weissman, Phil Unger - all good places. You need to decide about open and closed holes, offset or online G, split Em donut, or not - C or B foots - C# trill key - and all those headjoint options. Please get a good FLUTE teacher to assist you! And - google for Jen Cluff - her website is AMAZING (No, I am NOT Jen!). Also go to Yahoo Groups and join FLUTENET - there are over 3,000 of us flutists there to talk to. Good luck with the new flute!
