Position:Home>Performing Arts> Bass Clarinet problem?

Question:Ok, I play bass clarinet, and i use the school's instrument. It's pretty old, I'm not sure by how much though. Well, sometimes when i play, it makes a jingly noise. I tried adjusting the ligature and the mouthpiece, and the gooseneck, and that dosen't work. This happens sometimes, and other times it plays fine. What could be the problem here?

Yikes. School bass clarinets that are old can have lots of problems. Check for loose screws on all the keys, see if any of the pinky keys are vibrating. Also, look and see if the bell or any part of the bell is loose. And, check the screw that connects the metal neck to the body.

Beyond that, take it to a reputable repair person (usually a clarinet/oboe specialist) and ask them to take a look.
