I agree with the other answers here, but even Warmoth admits that there is no "best" wood for necks and fingerboards. It is a matter of personal preference.

I see no reason why you should NOT trust what Warmoth says about its neck woods on the following page:

I've never heard any complaints about the company or its products.

Good luck!

Maple and Rosewood are common neck materials, and will give your guitar a pretty classic sound and feel.

Ebony is a really hard wood that's great for quick-playing electric guitars, and if you are looking for a real thick fat sound, go with Mahogany.

It all comes down to what kind of sound you are looking for, and also what you like the look of.

The best wood is a matter of preference. Mahogony necks with either ebony or rosewood fretboard are used on acoustics and on Gibson Les Pauls, or a 1 piece maple neck and fretboard is used on Fender guitars, or maple necks with ebony or rosewood fretboards are used on both Fender, and Gibson guitars.
Maybe this will help, ebony fretboards are usually only found on higher dollar guitars like the Fender telecaster deluxe, or the Gibson Les Paul custom or special.

Hope this helps
