Orchestra body acoustic guitars...?

It's not that they are "special" in any way. The "orchestra model" guitar ("OM" as desiginated by C.F. Martin) is just a particular size, as are Grand Concert, Auditorium, 0, 00, 000 etc. A "D" is for dreadnaught.

The pages found on the following links will give you more details on the actual dimensions of such designations. Different manufacturers use different names for their particular sizes offered. Taylor guitars is a company that offers both Grand Concert and Grand Auditorium sizes.

It always comes back to personal preference. Some are smaller, some are louder, some have a better bass response. You really have to try each of the different sizes in each brand of guitar.
