Position:Home>Performing Arts> Keep classic guitar or buy acoustic?

Question:I recently bought my boyfriend a classical guitar for his birthday. He plays an acoustic already and has been mentioning he would like another guitar. I, not knowing anything about guitars, ended up buying a classical Woods guitar. I am contemplating if I should try and return it. Did I make a bad purchase?

The difference between a classical guitar and an acoustic guitar are the types of strings they have. Nylon strings are used on the classical guitar and steel strings on an acoustic. The strings not only sound different, they are capable of different things. Many people use classical guitars for classical music and acoustic guitars for pop, r&b, folk, etc..

I've included links below. If you know what kind of things he wants the new guitar for, that would be the best way to find out if this guitar you bought is what he's looking for.

Regardless, I think it's awesome that you bought him a guitar! He's a lucky guy!

Yeah go get him a Acoustic. Classical Guitar have flat sounds compared to the Acoustic, Classical guitars are only played by Stars in a Concert.

I'd give him the guitar and let him exchange it is he wants to. The sound of an acoustic is so much different than a steel string guitar that it might be just what he is looking for. If not, you can go exchange it for another one together. I don't see any down side to that either way. Best of luck no matter what you decide.

Classic guitars are great, however the neck is quite larger which can be difficult for those used to a slimmer neck. personally i prefer acoustic because it is more versatile.

It would be wise to ask him what sort of genre in guitar he wants to play.......is it Rock, Rythm &Blues, Classical, Flamenco even Pop.......etc...etc....there are sooooooooo many different guitars for different genres and still more....brands of guitar.......you have sluething to do....he may even want another guitar like he already has....go suss it out......good luck

Classical guitars have a smooth sexy sound. I play all types but the classical is very romantic. You made a good buy.
