Your best bet is chamber music: duets (another clarinet, flute, cello, piano, bassoon) and trio are much more marketable than solo clarinet.

Make sure you have a working repertoire: at least 45-60 minutes of music. It doesn't all have to be difficult music, but it should be able to serve a variety of functions, that is, have plenty that makes good background music (unfortunately, this is what a lot of gigs are) and some that's good for a more formal performance.

Wine tastings, special music for church services (Easter, Christmas, weddings, funerals, Holy Week, etc), wedding receptions, graduation parties, and formal dinners are all good gigs to look into.

Getting gigs is hard, especially at first. Your best bet is networking: print up posters and business cards, post them, give them to people. Make sure you KNOW WHAT YOU CHARGE and make sure it's appropriate to the type of performance and the going rate in your area. Have confidence. Also, when you get a gig, always double check location and time, make sure you are there EARLY. If you need a piano, make sure the facility has one. (It's a good idea to check out the piano a couple of days beforehand- if it's way out of tune, old, or not is working order, best to rethink the gig.)

Gigs are often seasonal: December tends to have tons (holiday stuff), other times of the year are slower.

Happy playing.

get a job

get together with some friends - like a quartet or something, and advertise that you will play at functions like dinners, dances, weddings, in stores, etc.

Go to nice restaurants, ask if they would like you to play for them?
Then other time, you may be in with a payment?
Find fellow instrument players and see if you could form a 'band'?

just have ur case open for ppl to put some money in...idk
