Do as much research on the character beforehand as you can. Get a real feel for the character and experiment with what you would do. If you can, read the script/score and listen to the music beforehand.

If you're choosing a song ahead of time, DO NOT choose one from the actual show unless asked to. Or if one song from the show REALLY fits your voice, then ask if it's ok to use it first. Choose a song in the style of the character with a decent range to show them what you've got.

If you have to do cold reads, then read over the script to yourself once, read it aloud a few times with your scene partner. Start setting goals an actions - decide what your goal is for the scene and use that to guide what you do. Whatever you do, do not just stand and give a line reading during a cold read. Don't be afraid to be physical, and always go with your first instincts!

During the audition, act professional. Don't talk or do anything distracting during other's auditions, and be friendly and polite to everyone (but still show some personality and humor!). Make them want to work with you.
